We're only a week into our shortest month, February, but it feels like the longest freakin' month so far. What is the deal, February?
I just switched this blog to a different, cleaner template and in the process revisited my Ethical Fashion Goals. I'm hitting most of them -- buying used, knowing what I'll like, buying from companies that don't make me hate myself 70% of the time when buying new -- but mending and making have really fallen through the cracks. I've given up on making for now but mending...mending I should be able to do.
Right now all my mending stuff is in various places. I have to dig out my stuff to mend and then figure out what I need to get it done. Does it need a sewing machine? Hand stitch? Backing fabric? Do I have all that or do I need to get anything? I'm toying with the idea of a mending party because I don't get anything done unless it's social or I'm socially accountable. I should be embarrassed by that but I know my quirks and this is one of them. So, that's my February - March 2018 goal. Mend -- alone or in a crowd!
An unplanned "less waste" benefit is that I've started wearing my glasses more. This has saved me on both buying replacement contact lenses as much and how much Conscious Contact contact solution I'm blowing through. (Conscious Contact seems to be the only contact solution not tested on animals, btw.) The jury is still out on glasses forever, because they make me feel barfy when I try to read on the subway. It's possible I just need transition lenses but so many people have said those make them feel barfy so I'm not quite sure what to do about it and so, I do nothing.
