How much do you love outfit photos?

How much do you guys like seeing outfit pictures?  I originally started blogging them as a way to prove I could shop ethically and still look like a normal person and not a tragic burlap-clothed granola-muncher.  It kept me accountable and I like seeing them on other blogs.

But do you?  I have slacked off a bunch in the past months, partly due to Old Man Winter and partly due to a lighting vortex in our apartment and I'm trying to figure out if I should try to bring them back regularly.

Okay.  Just curious to hear your thoughts on outfit posts on this blog - and other blogs, too.

  1. I like your words, but I really like outfit photos! Mainly because I like the way you dress and it gives me ideas. And you always have cute shoes.

  2. Ha, thanks for the illustrative "words" section of this post.

I like outfit photos for two reasons:

    1. They inspire to me to try new styles and outfit combinations.
    2. They allow me to see how an article of clothing looks on a normal person; an article of clothing that I might be interested in buying.

The outfit photos are not, however, the only reason that I read your blog--so if they are something you are not so into, don't feel pressure to do it!

I mainly like reading your writing about ethical clothing/product standards, as well as your thoughts about other potentially sustainable/cruelty-free options.

  3. I love the combo! Being a word girl and a having similar (yet very different! I'm like the opposite of a vegan, I guess. Which is part of why I like your blog.) views on on consumption I love long, thought-out posts about shopping and dressing, BUT I also love your outfit shots, because you have great style and you're a professional and have to dress the part and heck I'm just a clothes nerd! Either way, I will read.
    Happy Spring!

  4. I enjoy your outfit posts very much in and of themselves, but for me they are also valuable in providing a face to go with the wordy posts. I like to feel when reading an opinion piece or an informative post that it comes from the individual and is not just a more or less anonymous publication. Obviously I know that this is your personal blog, but I generally enjoy blogs wherein the glimpse of the blogger as an individual is maintained over time. Also, I just really like looking at clothes and seeing what people wear, it is inspiring and I like to enjoy others' enjoyment of, or experimentation with, clothing.

    1. PS. Thought before but forgot to write: that green dress with your sleeves adds up to one of the greatest outfits of all time.

  5. I've always liked your style, but I also like your words and POV. I may not comment very much but if I'm not behind or limiting myself and your subject line sounds interesting then I usually click-through/read/think whether there is a picture or not. I'm interested to see what others say because I'm curious about the lifecycle of style / personal blogs as a whole. It seems like from my somewhat limited reading, that outfit photos on smaller personal blogs are on the decline. I know I've fallen out of the habit but sometimes I think I might still post a few here and there again, sometime, maybe. The regular plastering of myself online was starting to bother me a little, like I felt sometimes I was dressing for an audience? So it's been kind of fun wearing things just for me and rediscovering my clothing comfort zone. Sometimes I'll see people who are regular posters on wardrobe_remix who basically post the variations of the same outfit over and over again and I wonder what their motivation is. I guess part of the fun is just in the documentation because clothing choices can tell a lot about a person's daily life. I think my mom sort of misses my outfit photos because I don't call her as much as I should. If I were to start blogging outfit photos again I guess it might have to be part of challenge again (which can get old) or maybe just a once a week "here's an example of what I've been wearing/thrifting lately if anybody cares" type thing.

    1. This is so interesting to read. I love outfit photos, looking at and doing. I think for me it is nice to see the person that is writing, and I just really like looking at clothes and it's nice to look at people that aren't all designer clothes and constant new stuff. I'd been cutting down on my outfit posts, because they were so much effort when I didn't have a private place to take them, but now we have a garden and a room with reasonable amount of lights, I think I might do them more again. i do love looking at my archives and they inspire me to try different combos. I guess there is a dressing for an audience element involved, but it doesn't bother me too much.

  6. I love your outfit photos!! They totally inspire me to try harder and not just wear sweats to class. You have the cutest style and it's always nice to see your face too since I don't see it enough in person, haha. But I also like your writing, you've got great things to say, so keep it up lady. xo

  7. It all depends on what type of readers you want to attract. A couple years ago all I wanted to do was look at clothes and I would basically skip anything some bloggers wrote. Now I'm much more in to reading opinions and essays, probably because I am so unwilling to go out and shoot outfit photos anymore myself. I notice I get a lot of hits on my outfit photos, but way more comments on my opinion pieces.

  8. I like your outfit posts (ohemgee where did you get that lace-collared grey t-shirt??) and your writing, so as long as you still feel comfortable, please bring on what you want!

  10. I like the pictures, and the writing. I also think pictures help break up the text so it can be easier to read. Plus same as the other comments I like your outfits choices and gives me ideas!

  11. I love outfit posts in general, and especially your great style! I can't stand the cookie-cutter stuff out there, but I do feel inspired by your "looks." New to your blog, and can't wait to go check out more!

  13. It's lame when folks only post pictures of themselves looking fly but it's also lame when there are not pictures. My deeply visual self loves them images!

  14. I like outfit photos because you have great style and I can be like "Oh, there's my friend Jesse over in NY that I never get to see but yay it's her face and clothes and such!"

  15. I think you strike a good balance. I like your outfit posts and get great ideas from them. However, you also write about really interesting, relevant, and important things. Please keep that coming! I think if you wrote vague, generic essays what you were wearing I might skip to the pictures but since you share important social and ethical aspect and tips, I read what you have to say.

  16. i do outfit posts for the exact same reason you do. in real life i actually have nearly no pictures of myself, i hate taking them so it's really ironic part of my blog. me and my bf counted once and we have 5 pictures, not including the ones i made him partake in for my blog in our 4 year relationship-crazy.

but there is a huge lack of bloggers with real intentions behind their outfit posts so while they are a pain ( i know it, girl!) i really like seeing them here.

Hey there! Thanks for leaving a comment. Please don't apologize for writing a lot - I like long thoughtful comments so bring on the "wall o' text" if you wish and have no shame.

Short comments are, of course, also always welcome.
