Thanks, 1990s

It's funny because I hated ravers and never ever planned to dress like a raver but when my mother unearthed this one, I am inexplicably rave-like. (The other glaringly obvious item in the photo was my '80 Buick Regal that I decided to paint with Hello Kitty and Wonder Woman semi-facsimiles. Unfinished was the Sea Monkeys side of the car. And "I Hate Valentine's Day" was the name of my old zine.) I am going to pin this one on skater culture of the '90s.

I looked like this and drove around like this for years.

  1. Is that a freaking choker you're wearing! AND did you make it yourself? And I seriously hope that is a matte brick red lipstick you're wearing. Because if so, then most def l'il 1990s Raver. Sh*t didn't it all start with "Here's Johnny"?

  5. Yep, the super baggy pants are definitely raver-esque. And what an awesome car you had!!!! I wish my parents would've let me paint mine! (As it was, all I really wanted to do was cover it in bumper stickers. But they wouldn't allow that either.)

  6. @Kate - there was no let, I guess. I didn't ask - I just showed up with it half painted one day after an impulse painting session in a parking lot one night (my friend and 7-11 staffer was tasked with painting the shelves in the store...and the paint drifted.) Then I just camped out in front of my house and painted the rest one day. I am not even sure I mentioned it to my family?

  9. Fat pants! lol oh the 90's I do sometimes miss them a lot. However I do not miss High School. I'm happy to find a fellow blogger that was also teen in the 90's! xx

  10. Ha! I always had a sneaking suspicion that most of the bloggers I follow now are really just the grown up "alterno girls" I would have thought were cool back in the 90s.

  11. Haha... I dressed like a raver too, yet probably only ever went to one. And it was too freaky for me. (though I do dig the beats in some of the songs)

Hey there! Thanks for leaving a comment. Please don't apologize for writing a lot - I like long thoughtful comments so bring on the "wall o' text" if you wish and have no shame.

Short comments are, of course, also always welcome.
